arica, chile

Arica is a small beach town in northern Chile.

Once we finally got there, it was delightful!!
We had very little money, so we basically laid on the beach every day.

Boring, you might think??
It was not so.

I am lucky enough to have a wonderful father and we happen to have a very similar taste in books. He lent me "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett, which I esentially read non-stop for 3 days on the beach.  It is about 1,000 pages long and hurts my arms to hold, but I cannot put it down.  I read about 700 pages this weekend alone and my eyes actually hurt.  Needless to say, I wasn't very much fun for Alex....but she understands. :)

Money was not so plentiful, so we basically ate empanadas for every single meal.

Peru thanks me for visiting!

Alex, Jette and I.
Jette was a 43 year old Danish woman that kind of followed us around for 3 days.
She was hilarious.

Big beer bong for Alex's birthday celebration.

"Watch Out!!  Machismo kills!!"

Condors flying over the seaside.

There is a big Jesus statue in every South American country.

I stuck a candle in a Bimbo muffin and sang her happy birthday!
Blowing out the birthday candle!

Jette shared her Chilean wine with us!
Alex and I playing some ping-pong at the Arica Surfhouse Hostel.

The view from El Morro, a big cool cliff/rock by the sea.
La Lisera beach.

Loved the hostel dog.

The Chilean flag with the moon in the background.

Here I am strolling by the seashore looking for a bus.
We saw a tango exhibition!
It was free.
It was great.

This sign cracked me up.
Someone drew bushy eyebrows and some awesome facial hair on this gorgeous girl in the ad.
We did enjoy some fresh fish with a tangy, spicy salsa.

They played a telenovela with an Antonio Banderas look-alike on the bus to the beach!
Tuto Beach was another beach that we went to, but it was a little more rocky.
El Laucho, Tuto Beach

We enjoyed a beer at this adorable little beach-side restaurant.

This is a random club on the side of the cliff.
Chileans told me that it was a little trashy and that they prefer to go to the Casino...
...Interesting.
