san jeronimo parade

On the way back from Andahuaylillas, we drove through San Jeronimo. Of course, we are 30 minutes away from home and it turns out that it is the anniversary of the town, San Jeronimo.

What does that mean?

That means there is a parade.  A huge parade.  Men dressed up as female monsters from Lake Titicaca, women dressed in high pleather boots and little skimpy dresses in 50 degree weather, marching bands played music (and did some awesome dancing and formation changes!).

It also means that all of the buses trying to get through the town to Cusco have to sit there and wait for the parade to be over.  We waited for 2 hours.  We went down and watched for a bit, I got a churro, and we chatted with some San Jeronimoians.  It was all nice and sweet but after seeing countless parades and after being on a bus for 8 hours it was really not so appreciated.

I have included the best pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Jenny,
These photos are fabulous! I was bound and determined to find your blog and after searching for awhile, I found you!

You really seem to capture an essence of your area of Peru by observing the out of the ordinary: doors, graffiti, colors, and all the other sights.

Keep posting the great photos and entertaining commentary!

All the best to you,
Johanna
